Reading At Home

Oxford Owl is a wonderful website with lots of free e-books to read. You can sort the books by reading age or topic. You can read the book yourself or listen to the book and follow the words on the page.

We will be writing book reviews about some of the books we are reading in class. It is a great chance for us to practice talking about a book and to share our opinions with each other. If you would like to write a book review at home, you can get a copy of the sheet by clicking on this link.Book Review

Questions to ask when reading.

What do you think will happen next?
What do you think the story is about?
Why do you think they did that?
What did the character just do?
Why do you think that?

       Phonics

If you are not sure how to say any of the sounds in RWI then you can check them at this website. Unfortunately they are not in the same groups that we teach but you can find them alphabetically.

If you would like to know more about the Read Write Inc programme then visit the official website at http://www.oup.com/oxed/primary/rwi/ . There are videos with advice on the Oxford Owl website (http://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/Question/Index/3)

If you have any questions reading at home with your child then please ask Mr Prosser or Ms Vargo.

Read Poetry at the Poetry Archive. One of the funniest poems is Spike Milligan’s “Land of the Bumbleeboo” . You can also listen to interviews with famous poets and find out what inspired them.
